Hi and welcome! I created Rome Exceptional Tutoring (RET) because I found that there was a gap in the market in tutoring and academic programming for neurodiverse and special needs students. I have a Master's Degree in Exceptional Student Education from Barry University, extensive education and training in Applied Behavioral Anaylsis from Florida Institue of Technology, and worked as an registered behavioral technician for three years. I am a certified teacher in exceptional student education, prek-3rd, reading endorsed, and speciialize in working with children with developmental delays and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
I take a holistic approach to teaching, taking into consideration the social-emotional, physical, and educational needs of my students and their parents. Every child has a different learning style, needs, and strengths. My job is to figure out how a child best learns and to adapt or differentiate my teaching methods to fit the child, not the other way around.
At RET, we focus on the entire family and offer services to help families cope with having an exceptional child. I was a therapist for 15 years specializing in families and addiction. My time working as a therapist, and parenting a special needs child myself, has provided me with a unique set of skills to help families cope and address issues related to raising a child who is different.
When I am not teaching or advocating for families, I enjoy reading, musical theater, being outside, and playing with our dog, Lucky, but my pride and joy is my son.
